10 Celebrities Who Embrace Corset Style
What was once an undergarment for women originating in the late 18th Century has now become a full-on fashion trend.
And corset style continues to thrive each season, with a plethora of celebrities hitting the red carpets and famous hot spots showing off their physiques in the notoriously figure-hugging bodices.
Other than the fact that these garments are flattering for the waist and the bust, designs are ever-changing. Thanks to the variety that comes with each new season, corset fans are spoiled for choice.
So who are the biggest corset wearers of the moment for you to take inspiration from?
1: Emily Ratajkowski
Emily Ratajkowski was happy to flaunt her increasingly infamous figure in 2017 as she took to a balcony at the Hotel De Crillon in Paris for a sultry photo shoot in a stunning black and champagne corset detailed with intricate lace.
Hugging her torso in all the right places, the Gone Girl actress certainly made a statement in the outfit, cementing corset style's continued place in modern-day fashion. When the woman of the moment is showcasing such a trend, you can be sure it's not disappearing any time soon.
2: Madonna
Madonna is perhaps the queen of corset style. Who could forget her famous Hanky Panky outfit, which became one of the singer's signature looks?
The Vaudeville-style conical-bra corset was designed by Jean Paul Gaultier and sold at auction in 2012 for $52,000 at Christie's in London.
She wore the piece during her 1990 Blonde Ambition tour with its pink and green sequins and matching fringe. Yet lately, the singer has opted for a more business-like black and lace style when it comes to gracing the red carpet in a corset. It may be over 20 years later, but she's still a fan of corset style.
3: Mel B
Scary Spice has long been a fan of corsets. In fact, she wore one when the Spice Girls announced their reformation in the summer of 2007. Since then, the singer has appeared on numerous red carpets and behind the judging desks of The X Factor UK and America's Got Talent wearing similar corsets in an array of colours from summery yellows to metallic silvers.
When she made her Return Of The Spice Girls announcement ten years ago, her bandmate Victoria Beckham also rocked a matching black corset.
4: Victoria Beckham
Other than mirroring Mel B in their 2007 appearance together in Greenwich, London, Posh Spice proudly 'brought back the corset' in 2016 using her own fashion line. For her Autumn/Winter '16 collection, Victoria Beckham 'evolved her personal style' by working corsets into the new range of garments.
She said at the time: 'I looked back at the clothes I've worn and designed and decided to rework key elements', adding of corset style 'I used to wear a lot and it felt very sexy and feminine. I wanted to find a way to bring that back and feel new and fresh.'
VB's corset ranges are unique in that they lack boning, and she uses this fitted basque style for her knitwear and as bodices on some of her dresses. And of course Mrs Beckham, being her best own spokesmodel, is frequently seen showing them off herself.
5: Gabourey Sidibe
In April 2017, American Horror Story actress Gabourey Sidibe rocked a corset in a shoot for Nylon magazine.
Gabourey - who is known for her curvier frame - looked sensational in the Orchard Corset piece for the interview, which saw her chat about female empowerment, body-confidence and feeling good.
The Oscar-nominated star was seen sprawled out in the fitted black number, staring defiantly down the lens of the camera. She demonstrated perfectly that corset style can be modelled by anyone of any shape and any size.
6: Lady Gaga
In 2016, Lady Gaga announced that 'as much as she loves them, it's time to take off the corsets'. She only meant this metaphorically, however.
She was writing an essay on womanhood at the time, championing female empowerment. In actual fact, the Perfect Illusion singer has been seen rocking corset style in multiple photo shoots, music videos, stage performances and red carpet appearances since she burst on to the scene in 2008.
7: Nicole Scherzinger
She's been seen at countless Halloween parties as a sexy Edwardian diva in a corset over the years. But Nicole Scherzinger has demonstrated the numerous ways this garment can be worn throughout her career.
From a shopping trip in Beverly Hills in 2012 during which she stepped out in a primrose yellow crushed corset dress, to her days as a Pussycat Doll, Scherzy is definitely a fan.
8: Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart's new blonde buzz cut wasn't the only thing turning heads at the LA premiere of her movie Personal Shopper last year. The Twilight actress turned up in what can only really be described as a corset belt.
The all-black outfit featured a bra top and sleek matching trousers, competed with a sheer corset waistband which also featured a silver zip, running from her waist downwards.
This vampiric look certainly went well with Kristen's gothic style, and the theme of the horror movie she was promoting.
9: Kim Kardashian West
The Instagram and reality TV queen uses corsets as a way to accentuate her lithe waist. In essence, this was one of the original purposes of the corset when it first appeared in fashion.
Kim has been seen using them with oversized sweaters, cycling shorts and with bandeau mini-dresses. in fact, she lauds waist-trainers as a figure-shaping dream.
10: Bella Hadid
Bella Hadid seems to be carving out a reputation as someone who understands how to accessorise a corset with originality. The model has been known to pair almost anything with the figure-hugging garment.
In the past, the Victoria's Secret star has been seen out and about wearing a corset with simple jeans, a skinny scarf, slouchy flairs or a mini-skirt.
